BSc in Interior Design

B.Sc. Interior Design is a 3-year undergraduate course in which students learn to design comfortable spaces and anticipate people’s needs. It is a program which educates students with concepts of planning, designing, organizing and managing a space according to its function. The course includes a detailed study about principles and elements of design. It covers all aspects of design including commercial spaces and residential spaces, hotels, corporate spaces, schools, hospitals etc.

The objective of this course is for students to broaden their perceptions of interior space, which enables them to create visual compositions using both two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects. The course adopts an inter-disciplinary approach, integrating the subjects of material science and design skills.

Students who enjoy indulging in decorating spaces, have an instinct for designing and creativity are apt for B.Sc. interior Design. One must also have effective communication skills and a technical approach, as it adds on to being suitable for this program.

Job Prospects

As a fresh graduate, one can find entry positions as space planners, assistant designers, rendering illustrators, draftsmen, and production coordinators etc. and work with individual designers, architects, builders, construction companies, resorts and in hotels. There are even large firms which deal with architecture or designing consultancies, where too one can find excellent prospects. One has the potential to establish a design firm of their own or take up freelance assignments. Interior designers can seek a variety of options, either part time, full time or self employment. One can also go for higher education by doing a postgraduate degree such as M.A./M.Sc in the same field.

Eligibility Criteria

The minimum qualification required to apply is a pass 10+2 examination in PUC or equivalent to board. Students across all streams – Science, Commerce and Arts are eligible to take up the course.

Fee Structure

Course fee per year is Rs.1,20,000/-. This can be paid on a yearly or a per semester basis.
